Sorry I don't speak german.
Could you please help me to identify my double bass? Which date? The maker was somebody from Rubner family or just the label was used? Is it a real Rubner bass at all?

Re: Rubner Musima Kontrabass - help for identification
Hello Daniel,
you see the Musima label inside. So this double bass was made between 1984 and 1990. Before 1984 the Rubner workshop was part of "PGH Sinfonia" and after 1990 German Democratic Republic does no longer exist.
The Rubner workshop was here in Markneukirchen in Erlbacher Str. 36. I guess, there worked about 8 craftsmen.
Although Johannes Rubner in 1959 got a real master craftsman certificate, he worked as team manager longest time, if I know right.
Best greetings and happy playing
Udo

Re: Rubner Musima Kontrabass - help for identification
Hello Udo,
Thank you for this valuable information.
If you don't mind I would have further questions.
Are there any difference in quality between the Rubner basses before 84 and after?
I couldn't find any Rubners on the web with Musima label and any Johannes Rubner manufacture label between 82 and 92. My Hungarian collegaues doubt it is genuine Rubner. The whole Musima periode is a bit shady.
Maybe it does not belong to your area of expertise, but have you any idea how much this instrument worth aproximately?
Thank you for your help!!!
Best wishes,
Daniel

Re: Rubner Musima Kontrabass - help for identification
Hi Udo,
A japanese instrument maker has a Johannes Rubner bass from 1988. He sent me the label. Does it mean that the Rubner munfacture made basses for Musima at that time and others as Johannes Rubner instruments?
Still questioning the difference of quality.
Thanks,
Daniel

Re: Rubner Musima Kontrabass - help for identification
Check for a label inside the double bass. Manufacturers often place labels with information about the instrument's maker, origin, and sometimes the date of manufacture. Look for a label that might have the Rubner Musima name or logo.
