Oscar Adler tenor saxophone

Beitrag von Pauls »

I have just bought a lovely oscar adler tenor Saxophone. It's serial number is 1075, it needs a a re pad, doesn't appear to have a low b flat key and is nickle plated .
Can anyone tell me its date, if its low or high pitch and any history please.
I will appreciate any information. Thanks Paul

Hello Paul,

next time, please put your request into the right folder. Thank you.

What I can say immediately: It's a very old Oscar Adler tenor - playable down towards Low H.
Whether it is high pitch? Blow a c and then you will know. Just by looking at photos, an answer will be more than difficult.

I have some questions:
a) it has 2 octave keys, right?
b) is the emblem just a coin that was brazed onto the bell? Or was it pressed into the bell itself?
c) What about the low d? is there an additional small pad in the middle of the d pad?

Some more photos would be interesting. During the upcoming days, I'll try to derive the date of manufacture.

Regards, Tobi

Hi Tobi
I appreciate your reply. I am afraid I don't seem able to add any pictures.... is there another way? I just get this Bild and I am not sure which folder my post is in?
Re your questions''

a) it has 2 octave keys, right? correct...I think one is high F#
b) is the emblem just a coin that was brazed onto the bell? Or was it pressed into the bell itself?
..... It is pressed into the bell itself.
c) What about the low d? is there an additional small pad in the middle of the d pad? No

Hopefully you will be able to get better idea of age and again thank you for your reply...Paul

Hello Paul,

now, as we have this thread sitting in the wrong position, you may of course use this one for further photos. You managed already to post three photos. The same way should work to post some more.

Regarding the two octave keys: this is a hint for the age. Definitely, there is no High F# funtion. You need to switch keys around high G onwards (as I'm not mistaken).

Regarding the age: I strongly believe that it should have been built between 1910 and 1920, maybe somewhere in the middle. It is definitely a very early Oscar Adler Tenor.

I would appreciate to see further pictures, if you don't mind.

Regards, Tobi.

Hi Tobi
I've tried loading more pics but system tells me 'file too large.'
It is a shame as I would like to post more detailed shots of the 2 octave keys and the rollers.
Do you think there are many left in the world like this one? I'd love to be able to get it playing again.....
Thank you again Paul
p.s If you could reply to paulshirlaw@hotmail.co.uk I can reply with more pics...you are then welcome to add to this thread if you so wish for the general interest of others.
